My Ultimate Road Trip

So what is your dream vacation?  What is your dream road trip?  I have one "dream" for each category!  Right now, I'm actually praying for my dream road trip.

This road trip would be (in my opinion) the ultimate homeschool field trip!  Imagine the things we could see and learn from!

I would absolutely LOVE to get a camper that you drive and go west.  We've never been west and I think a camper would be the way to go.  We are the Hyatt Hotel people.  We've NEVER camped not even in a camper so this would be ...interesting!

I'd really like to do this before the boys get too old.

Driving a camper to the Grand Canyon from the Chicagoland area takes many extra funds these days.  That's why I'm asking God for it!

What is your dream vacation/trip?

Wilderness Territory Water-parks ~ Review from a homeschooling mom's perspective!

All of the official stuff:
Wilderness Territory is a resort located in Wisconsin Dells.  It sits on 600 acres and is America’s Largest Water-park Resort!  We had the privilege of visiting for a whole week and I'd love to tell you about it... from a mom's perspective!

We stayed at the Wyndham Vacation Resorts timeshares. (You can read my review here: Wyndham Review.)  With that reservation, we had full access to the Wilderness Water-parks.  There are many options for lodging at the Wilderness Territory.

A quote from their website:
"The Wilderness Territory has a variety of lodging options that are perfect for any size group or budget. Choose from traditional hotel rooms, 2 and 3 bedroom condos, 2 bedroom vacation villas or our 3,4 and 5 bedroom cabins some which even have home theater rooms. And, of course, Wilderness Waterparks are included for all registered guests!"

My Perspective:
We went in December right before winter break.  We had our choice of 3 giant indoor water-parks.  (If you go in the summer, you have access to both indoor and outdoor water-parks.)  Since we went at a time that school is in session, we didn't have an issue with crowds.  Even when it seemed to fill up more on the weekends, it wasn't too bad!

From a merely FUN perspective:
The water-parks were a BLAST!  Now, let me tell you, I am almost 40 and a bit overweight and I was still able to get up the stairs to the water-slides and comfortably go down them!  Ha! (Alright, I admit, I sat on a pool-side chair and read a book every once in a while! Lifeguards are everywhere.)

The wave pool and lazy river were two of my favorite things.  Ok, so there's a lot of floating around in those two "activities."   I really liked the kiddie section where you get soaked on your way UP to the kiddie sized water slides!

From a homeschool mom's perspective:
I think this counts as school!  Your kids can explore in water and actually feel the force it has as it sweeps the lazy river around the room, dumps from a giant bucket in the sky, or instantly throws giant waves into an otherwise calm pool!

Kids can try to guess how many gallons of water dump from the big bucket.  As they sit in the outdoor hot-tub in the middle of winter while it is snowing, they can try to understand why they are steaming even though it is snowing outside!  (To be honest, we stayed in it long enough one cold night to let our hair start to freeze on the ends!)

Our kids (ok me too) loved to walk the long halls and look out the windows at all of the natural beauty outside.  We even saw a small group of deer wander down a path (full of deer prints) next to the frozen creek.  It was so beautifully lined with pine trees and natural rock walls.  This really helps when you are missing the out-doors!

My conclusion:
This place is the bomb! (That's still a word, isn't it?)  I loved the water slides, lazy river, wave pool and even the little kiddie sections!  Yes, I experienced them all.  There are so many fun things to do that we never had to leave this place all week except to get groceries.

I will be reviewing a bunch of the fun things that you can do when you purchase the Wilderness Wild Fun Pass in another review post.

Here are some photos from our trip:

Wilderness Vacation Resort ~ Videos

I did a review of the Wilderness Vacation Resort and a review of the Wyndham Vacation Resorts.  The following are videos that show some of the fun that we had!

Here is a video by the Travel Channel of several of the waterslides at the Wilderness including the Hurricane.  The Hurricane is a 6 story waterslide! As of 2009, it was the biggest waterslide in the world!

The following videos are from our trip.  Just watching them makes me want to go back!

The wave pool was one of my favorites!  It has a beach entrance and goes up to 6' at the deep end.  There are plenty of tubes for everyone to float on or you can just jump into the waves.

The Hurricane is the biggest water-slide and it was a blast!  You can go down with 2 people or with 4.  This was a favorite with our kids!

Wyndham Vacation Resorts from a mom's perspective!

We had the privilege (and I mean that) of staying at Wyndham Vacation Resorts at Glacier Canyon in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

Wyndham Vacation Ownership is the world’s largest timeshare company with more than 135 timeshare resorts worldwide and I would LOVE to tell you about our experience from a mom's perspective!

From their site:

"Great Accommodations. Step up to a roomy 1, 2, 3, or 4 bedroom vacation condominium instead of a small hotel room. Enjoy the comforts of home with living rooms with media fun galore; elegant dining areas; fully equipped kitchens, and private bedrooms with pleasures like private spas."
"You’ll stay at a brand-new property that assures you the same impressive list of amenities Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort guests enjoy — including five water parks within walking distance."

From moment we pulled up to the resort, excitement was in the air. Yes, the kids were excited about the indoor water-parks, indoor mini-golf, laser tag, playground and arcades, but more than that, I was excited about ultimate relaxation!

The front desk was wonderful.  They were extremely friendly and accommodating.  They informed us that once we get to our condo, we won't be bothered again!  Not once do they come through to make beds or change towels.  I really like that.  The only time they "bother" you is when you ask them to!

Things that I liked from a mom's perspective:

  • Beautiful condo ~ tastefully decorated with high ceilings, leather sofa, and fireplace
  • Open concept ~ helps the family feel "together"
  • Private split floor plan ~ separates master for privacy
  • Open kitchen with bar and stools
  • Kitchen completely stocked with everything you will need except food
  • Master suite ~ king size bed, feather blanket and pillows, flat screen TV, large whirlpool bathtub, private bathroom, large 2 person shower with glass enclosure
  • Washer, dryer and dishwasher all inside the condo

This place was a dream and we were instantly comfortable.  From the moment we stepped into the condo, I felt pampered.  The whole place was great, but the thing I liked most was the master suite.  It was so big and open that when I needed privacy and time away I didn't feel like I was squished into a little room.

Our condo was just a short walk away down a few halls, to many fun activities.  Since it only took us a few minutes to get to indoor water-parks, laser tag, min-golf, candy stores, and so much more, we were able to easily go back and forth as we pleased.  That allowed me to rest and relax even though there was plenty for our family to do everyday!

Another thing that I really liked was that we never had to leave!  Everything that we could have needed (except groceries) was already there!  There was entertainment, stores, and restaurants right at our disposal within a few minutes walk.

If you are looking for a place to go for spring break or if you are just needing a family get-away, I highly recommend  Wyndham Vacation Resorts at Glacier Canyon in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

I will be telling more about our stay in future posts so stay tuned!
