HELP!!

Fellow homeschooling parents, I need help!

I am looking for good books for my 15 yr. old son to read.  Do you know of some good ones or where I can get a list?

Thanks!

Janet

Wednesday

What are you doing?

What are you doing to get ready for school?

I'd love to hear about it!

If you'd like to take it a step further, I'd love to post about what you are using for curriculum this year.

Served On a Silver Platter

Is life served on a silver platter?

Struggle ~ an element that is often needed to build great character and integrity.

Definitions ~ 1. to contend with an adversary or opposing force.

2. to contend resolutely with a task, problem, etc.; strive: to struggle for existence.

Do your children ever have the privilege of struggling?
Do they ever know of your struggles and watch you persevere?
Is life served to your children on a silver platter?

How are you using situations to teach them to persevere?

Reading List

What are your kids reading right now?
Do you have a reading list that you pick books off of?

I am looking for some great reads for the boys (6th and 8th grade).

Thanks in advance!

Help!! Science

I need help.  I need to find a science for each of my boys (5th and 8th grade).  I know of all of the usual titles but I'm looking for something different and inexpensive!  I like workbooks.

Got any ideas?  What do you use for science?

Thursday

I'd like to hear from you!

How's your homeschool doing so far this year?

Are you liking your curriculum or are you going to change at the new year?

Are you meeting your goals?

Are you getting cabin fever yet or are you staying busy?

Do tell!

Monday

This is the way...

You know how some adults make their kids do certain things like sports or cheer-leading so that they can live vicariously through them?  Shouldn't it be the other way around?

My husband and I frequently serve at a church that feeds homeless and disadvantaged people.  We go so often that we know some of the regulars by name and / or by what they wear.  (Like the transv_stite that dresses like a cop or one armed Henry... sweet one armed Henry.)

This place is not for children.  They don't even allow high-schoolers unless they are older.  I wish we could take our older son so that he can learn, see, and experience a life that he wouldn't otherwise see.

Since our kids can't go, we tell them about everything that happened.  They ask us questions about circumstances and different people that they have heard us talk about.  We try to describe the smells of the homeless and alcoholics and ladies who are sprayed with a bunch of perfume!

For now, we let them live vicariously through us.  This is the way...

Is there anything in particular that your kids have to do or live through you?

The Bible

Yes, the Holy Bible... What a great book to use in your homeschool! This is the number one best seller and the Word of Truth!

What does it offer for a homeschooler? I think that there are too many answers to this question but I will start and you can follow.

1. A guide for life
2. Love from The Creator
3. Awesome heritage
4. Stories that will rock your world
5. The accounts of the One who died to save your soul
6. Words to live by
7. Poetry
8. Wisdom
9. A great Book to memorize
10. Science
11. Great examples of literature and writing

Would someone else like to add to the list that I started? (I know that it could go on and on forever but please share a bit.)

If you haven't read this book, let us just encourage you to get one and read it! It will rock you to the core! It's like nothing that you have ever read.

Thursday

Nature Journal

The subject of keeping a nature journal
came up so I thought I would ask
if any of you have your kids keep one?
If so, please tell us about it and give us some tips!
