We went to the park today to take our annual school photos and Espresso found this frog by a pond. I couldn't see it for a few seconds because the frog was so camouflaged.

The lighting today wasn't perfect so we'll try again on another day to see if we can get better ones but these are so cute!
My Mom and Dad went on a trip to Tennessee and brought home a great gift for the Espressos. They brought two African Dwarf Frogs. These are the cutest little things and VERY easy to care for! (That's good.) They are active in the evening and eat very little.
These frogs swim in water but go to the top for air. They only need fed twice a week or so. That's about it.
There is a store in Chattanooga that sells these frogs. I think the name is the Teacher's Tool Box. It's $20 for the box, rocks, frog, plant, snail and food for a year. That's a pretty good deal!
Yesterday, I was taking the dog for a walk and happened to look down and see a caterpillar on a bush. I plucked the leaf off and took the little guy home. We put him in a jar and read about how to take care of him.
Today, the boys and I took the dog for another walk and found 2 more caterpillars (all 3 different) on the same bush. We took them home and gave them each their very own caterpillar condo.
I thought it would be neat to make nature journals about what the caterpillars are doing everyday. So far, the first one has eaten 1/3 of his leaf and pooped a nice little pile of black balls! Sorry, TMI!!! I found this great journal for kids to make at Bringing Up Learners.
For most of us, I think, SPRING has sprung! Now what? Well, for homeschoolers like myself that means coming out of my cave that I've been hibernating in. (I have a tendency to do that.) I am just aching to get outside and put my bare feet into some sand or go for a warm nature walk!
Here are some great springtime ideas to get the creative juices flowin:
Go for a nature walk.
Take some art supplies outside and make, draw, paint or color what reminds you of spring.
Start a nature journal.
Let the kids use your camera to take pictures of "spring" outside then make a collage of the pictures.
Monday we went on a nature walk near the Wabash River. It was so gray and brown with nothing green; no leaves, no flowers. It doesn't sound like it but it was so beautiful! I loved every minute of exploring God's creation with our family.
Let me encourage you to go on a nature walk with your kids. Take in deep breaths of fresh air, look at the mud for prints, see if you can find some buds starting, and maybe even see an animal! Here are some pics of what we found:

Evidence! Something was eating corn and left a little behind!
Prints! These were about 6 feet away from the corn! The rest of the prints were found about 10 feet away from the river's edge. We found lots of nice places that animals may live.We are hoping to find out what those prints are. I am planning on getting a field guide from the library this week to look them up.
